Rust in Peace Reunion say wha…..?
March 5th, 2010 | Posted by Drummer JohnI logged on to msn messenger today — something I haven’t done in about four months — and next to one of my friends name is “Rust in Peace Anniversary show tonight.” I cursed myself for letting this monu-”metal” event slip under my radar. Unfortunately, I’m way too late, not to mention poor, to catch what will likely be Megadeth’s most memorable tour in about 20 years; however, I’m not going to let the musical equivalent of a nuclear holocaust — Megadeth whip through Western North America again without witnessing the mayhem, and I suggest you do the same.
Rust in Peace was a mile-stone album for the band and for thrash metal in the early 90’s. Not only was the record considered a masterpiece by fans and professional music reviewers alike, Megadeth’s tour de force album set a standard for aspiring musicians to imitate, replicate, but never, NEVER duplicate — homing their music abilities to epic instrumentals like “Hanger 18,” and the building themselves into a thrash frenzy with “Holy Wars.” The fact that these dudes are still going strong proves that shred really isn’t dead.
Check out Dave Mustaine’s interview where he not only talks about reuniting with David Ellefson, the band original bassist, but also gets a bit sappy about being “born again” in the Christian faith; I guess I should look forward to “Holy Wars” being re-written in a major key and titled “Holy Spirit.”
The bomb drops on Seattle September 3rd. Megadeth will be sharing the stage with Slayer and Testament. Damn, last time I say Slayer I couldn’t twist my neck to the left or right for three days; I’m still lookin forward to the show though.

Due to no Vancouver stop I regret not being able to see a performance on this legendary tour. While I have seen them before; this would surely take the cake. My brother and friend saw their stop last night in Edmonton playing the entire Rust In Peace album and meeting Mustaine and Ellefson afterwards. Truly, history in the re-making.

Correction: They saw Calgary’s show and are going again tonight in Edmonton.
