Rachael's Top 5 Albums

February 18th, 2010 | Posted by Drummer John

Hello Blogosphere! I’m Rachael and one of the new bloggers here at Steamroller.

I thought that before jumping right into the music content of the post that I give a little bit of background on myself to give everyone a bit of an idea as to here I am coming from.

Currently, I am an undergrad student working a a degree in Communications with a minor in Fine and Performing Arts. My musical interests range from weird indie stuff that you’ve probably not heard to the most mainstream stuff that 14 year olds love. Aside from being a bit of a musical snob and the oh-so-busy student, I’m a lover of art, pop culture, the West Coast, and new media (blogger, twitter, tumblr, hypmachine… I eat that shit right up).

But moving back to the music…. I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite albums.

Regina Spektor – 11:11 and Songs

I have a hard time picking favourites with anything but Regina is one of my all-time favourite artists. Both of the albums I could listen to both of these albums for days on end without getting tired of them. It is raw and emotional with some amazing lyrics. Standout songs: Back of a Truck (11:11), Consequence of Sounds (Songs)

Radiohead – OK Computer

This album is a total staple in my mind. There is just something about this collection of songs that gets me. Always nice to go back to Radiohead’s sound before they get experimental.Standout songs: Karma Police – I could sing that song all day long.

Spoon – Kill The Moonlight

I can’t lie and say that I didn’t start listening to Spoon after hearing them on an episode of The O.C. Each song on here is wonderfully crafted with detail but never gets to the point of being overdone. All in all, a indie rock album. Standout songs: Paper Tiger

The Shins – Oh, Inverted World

I remember watching the movie Garden State and hearing a few of the songs off of this album on there. Immediately, I was attracted to their sound and mellow vibe. Each song offers so much to make it into a solid mix of inspirations. I can’t say that the album change my life like the famous quote from Garden State claims it will do but it will always have a place on my list of favourites. Standout song: Caring is Creepy
