Playa Dawgs Need Help

January 13th, 2010 | Posted by Courtney

So, as some of you may or may not know, Drummer John and I lived in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for two years. We met some amazing people there and Drummer John had the pleasure of starting a band with one of them. They were called the Playa Dawgs because Andy, the singer in the video below, co-founded and runs a no-kill pet shelter that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes neglected, sick and abused dogs and cats.

The reason I’m telling you this is because recently they rescued a dog named Oscar, who is a Pit Bull. In the Peanut Pet Shelter’s own words:

Our latest PPS rescue is Oscar the Pit Bull who arrived today. Named for the extremely kind man who has been feeding him and who alerted us to his plight, Oscar is a truly sad case. He is hungry, he has mange, fungus, open sores and parasites. His ears have been cropped so short as to be almost non-existent. Worst of all, Oscar has given up hope. Look into his eyes and you will see no sign of suffering, pain, discomfort or distress, there is simply…..nothing. He is not aggressive or resistant. He is not friendly or loving. He neither  accepts or rejects affection. He is simply existing, a hollow shell of an animal.

Click here to see what Oscar looks like (this photo may be disturbing to some viewers, click through with caution).

Oscar needs all the help he can get. I believe that Andy and Jen at the Peanut Pet Shelter can rehabilitate this dog, but they need help. Please consider donating whatever you can to help save this dog: http://peanutpetshelter.org/donations.html You can also help out by purchasing some of the awesome merchandise in their store. Our house is covered in Peanut Pet Shelter swag and it’s all the rage, so get yours: http://peanutpetshelter.org/store.html

I will keep you posted about this worthy organization!

The Playa Dawgs were, and will be again, a lot of fun, mind you this dog and many others need all the help and support they can get. The cruelty and mistreatment of animals makes me feel sick to my stomach. Please take a moment to give whatever you can to the Peanut Pet Shelter. They are amazing people going way above and beyond. Kind of puts things into perspective.

I am depressed by so very much of what I learn about how animals are being treated. We have to take care of them. Someone I know created a website to seek to inform about puppy mills in his area. Every little act assists.
